Our Story

On September 15, 2020, Emma Frances Calder, the youngest daughter of David and Sally Calder and younger sister of Carly and Ellie, was killed in a car accident. In the weeks following the accident, the family heard story after story of Emma’s love of adventure, her kind nature, and her tender heart. To honor her tenderness and kindness, a scholarship in her name has been established to allow other students to attend Clemson University.

Our Mission

Echoes of Emma is a non-profit generating opportunities for Upstate South Carolina students to reach their full potential, encouraging development of empathy and kindness in their everyday lives. The memory of Emma Frances Calder will echo forever through scholarships awarded to Upstate graduates to attend Clemson University without the burden of financial uncertainty.

Our Vision

Echoes of Emma envisions an Upstate community that believes in our youth and designs opportunities for them to believe in themselves, discover their abilities, and create the future they want. Emma’s kindness drives us to give other young people the education and opportunities she will not have but would be so proud to be part of, generating a continuous stream of college graduates who carry Emma’s kindness forward.
